Supporting you and your family
We know that the COVID-19 pandemic is a stressful time for many – adults and children alike. The following link gives advice from the Government regarding Mental Health at this time. You can always contact us too.
The linked document explains what to do if you or anyone else in your family is asked to book a test.

What to do if your child has symptoms
Public Health Guidance states that children must not attend school if they have a high temperature; a new, persistent cough; or a loss of sense of smell or taste, even if these symptoms are likely to be part of another illness, such as a common cold.
High temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature).
New, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual).
Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
If your child displays one of these symptoms, the advice is to stay at home and arrange a Covid test for your child. Once a negative test result is received your child and siblings can return to school.
If your child has symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, they must stay at home for 10 days from when their symptoms started.
If someone your child lives with has symptoms, everyone must stay at home and not leave the house for 10 days.
Anyone who displays symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) can and should get a test as soon as possible.
We ask parents and staff to inform the school office immediately of the results of a test:
- if someone tests negative, if they feel well and no longer have symptoms similar to coronavirus (COVID-19), they can stop self-isolating. They could still have another virus, such as a cold or flu – in which case it is still best to avoid contact with other people until they are better. Other members of their household can stop self-isolating.
- if someone tests positive, they must continue to self-isolate for at least 10 days from the onset of their symptoms and then return to school only if they do not have symptoms other than cough or loss of sense of smell/taste. This is because a cough or anosmia can last for several weeks once the infection has gone. The 10-day period starts from the day when they first became ill. If they still have a high temperature, they should keep self-isolating until their temperature returns to normal. Other members of their household should continue self-isolating for 10 days.
Test and Trace Information
- Individuals should only get tested if they have symptoms of coronavirus as described above.
- Parents or carers of children attending school or school staff with symptoms of coronavirus should book a test as normal via the government website or by calling 119.
Confirmation of a test booking should include a QR code so please do not visit a test centre unless you have been sent a QR code as you may be refused entry.
As children need their parents to conduct the test for them (or help them do it themselves) it is important that when attending a test centre they enter the self test lane. Failure to do this may result in the test not being available.
If you have any concerns about a household member showing signs of the virus and are unsure whether your child should be attending school, please contact school in the morning, before leaving the house to bring your child to school and we will advise you.
