Sport at Feniton Primary

At Feniton we aim to making physical activity a key part of our school day and our school curriculum.Exercise is of course an important element in fighting childhood obesity and PE helps children develop new skills, gain confidence and be more motivated to learn. That is why we are committed to extending these benefits to every single child.

PE and sport are used to engage the wider community and foster positive relationships with other schools. The existing sport partnership provides specialist PE teachers and coaches to work alongside our teachers, increasing both knowledge and confidence to deliver high quality school sport and physical education. Our pupils have ample access to local competition and national pathway school games. Our many successes at regional level exhibit the value of this partnership.

Be The Best You Can Be! Programme

Our Be the Best you can Be! Programme enables young people to discover their unique potential and inspires, engages and empowers them to pursue and fulfil their dreams. The Programme is the translation of inspiration into action, creating a Legacy for the 21st Century.

Dr David Hemery CBE believes that “there is a spark of greatness in everyone”.

An introduction to the new sports council for 2016-17

Feniton Primary has a new Sports Council . Our role is to make sure the school is up and moving at lunchtimes and to make eye catching posters. We encourage the children, by posters, reports and lots more, to get into sport. We run daily competitions on the playground and for KS1 we organise a group of children’s fun activities. Our goal at lunchtimes is to get the whole school moving! Our members have different responsibilities, but we usually all share the workload. Here are some of the interests of the members:

ET: My favourite sports are trampolining, running and netball. This year I would like to make this school more sporty and to make them aware of competitions.

JD: Dancing is my favourite sport. I would like to help the school get into sports a bit more.

JC: My favourite sports are badminton, netball, tag rugby, football, tennis and basket ball. This year I want to improve the amount of sport in school and lead activities.

JA: My favourite sport is gymnastics. I am going to help other people to do different things.

ACC: My favourite sport is rugby. I would like to increase sports awareness and getting more people to love sport.

FP: My favourite sports are netball, sprinting and horse riding. I would love everyone to become more confident and be the very best that they can be.

SL: My favourite sports are running and gymnastics, cycling and horse riding. For the school this year I would like us to compete in high level sports events and especially in gymnastics.

What a brilliant start to our school sporting calendar !

The whole school were up and moving and indeed crawling as they undertook a sponsored commando challenge. From our reception class to year 6, they all competed with a sense of determination and great fun. A very successful day. IMG_0891

Cross Country continues to excite and enthuse throughout the school with many signing up for the cross country club in readiness for the Stockland tournaments. and an even greater number competing against other local schools at the Kings Cross Country event. Many personal bests were achieved on the evening Tuesday 20th Sept and there was a high proportion of finishers in the top 5 places in the various year groups. Alongside  this euphoria the children were buzzing after listening to the encouraging words  of Olympian Jo Pavey a past pupil of Feniton School and a true role model for being the very best you can be.

Sainsbury’s School Games Hi 5’s Netball 2016

Feniton were defeated in the semi finals of  the Premiership competition in the Sainsbury’s School Games Hi 5’s Netball Tournament on Friday 7th October. Their strong form is reflected in their winning  4 out of 5 games. There is certainly an abundance of talent, with many cross discipline skills being on display.

Within the Championship tournament Jack Challinor won the man of the tournament trophy for skills and sportsmanship. Well done Jack .

Our fair play teams exhibited the necessary values of teamwork, respect, excellence and determination, needed to have a successful afternoon.

Level 2 cluster competition year 6 Football League 2016

A nail biting finish to the first round of the Ottery St Mary Partnership competition, with two of the teams able to take top spot at this early stage of the competition. Feniton went into the final match on Tuesday 4th October unbeaten. Equaled only by Ottery Primary with whom they beat in that final match.  An extremely successful and hard fought competition. Well done ! We wondered whether being smartly dressed in the new school strip had anything to do with their performance !

Level 3 East Devon Finals Competition February 2016

Eight children from Year six, proudly represented the Ottery St Mary cluster in the East Devon Finals at The Colin Tooze Sports  Centre Ottery.  Their valliant attempts to score and defend were rewarded with a win in each and every one of the group matches. Equally matched within the quarter finals, the ten minute game ended with a 1.0 defeat which sadly put them out of the next round and without a chance to qualify for the Devon Games. However, heads held high , they were proud of their achievement. We are VERY proud of them all. IMG_3595

Level 2 cluster competition Athletics November 2015

32 children took part in a grueling afternoon of athletic activity at the Colin Tooze Sports hall. Feniton were pipped at the post with both the Premier and the Championship teams finishing a very respectable 2nd in their respective competitions. Our successes came from teamwork ,excellence and determination on the part of all our young sporting heroes.
